The 74th Governing Council meeting of the Institute of Marine Engineers (India) was held on the 17th and 18th DEC, 2016 at Kochi. IMEI President Mr Dilip Mehrotra chaired the two-day meeting.

The HGS read out the Action taken Report  in detail and various pending issues were discussed. Deadlines were given to the sub committee members to close out the pending issues.

The Chairmen of Subcommittees, Branches presented their activity reports and the proposed budget for the FY 2017-2018. Activities pertaining to Benevolence Fund and External Bodies including WMTC were presented to the GC. The GC opined that the current rules for disbursing funds from the Benevolence Fund were stringent and there was a need to make the Fund more accessible to the needy marine engineer.  It was decided that Benevolence Fund guidelines would be reviewed by a committee comprising of Shri V K Jain, Mr C V Subba Rao and Mr Ajay Tambwekar.

HGS updated the GC on the Income Tax Assessment orders received. These are generally favorable to the IMEI.  Steps have been taken for the reduction in the Electricity tariff charges from MSED with effect from September, 2016. This will result in halving our electricity bill and a yearly saving of Rs 14 lakhs. The GC was updated on the status of On line Net Banking for the statutory payments, E Voting responses, E voting Proposal, Approval of Courses at Kochi in new premises, Facilitation centre at Vizag, revision in membership fees and Changes in the ORP. It was decided that the submission of On Line Membership application form is to be developed along with the IMEI IConnect, Facebook and website.

An online demonstration was presented to the GC for Audio/ Video conferencing systems. The GC approved the proposal to connect all Branches with HO through video conferencing. The BLFSC committee updated the GC on the status of construction of the third floor at IMEI House. It was decided to appoint a project civil engineer to closely monitor the construction.
