IMEI IS NOW ISO 9001:2008 CERTIFIED
The Institute was awarded the ISO certificate at a function on August 22, 2015 held on its premises in Nerul. The event was well attended, with the Director General of Shipping and Ex officio Addl Secretary to Govt of India, Mr. Deepak Shetty as the Chief Guest. Mr. Arun Gupta, Chairman and Managing Director, Shipping Corporation of India was the Guest of Honour. IMEI President, Mr. C V Subba Rao presided. Among the distinguished gathering were Past Presidents, Mr. H K Taneja, Mr. R L Jain, Mr. P C Jain, Mr. K Chidambaram, Mr. M V Ramamurthy, Dr. B K Saxena and Dr. K A Simon. Mr. A R Chitnis, Mr. B Saraswat and Mr. R C Bhavnani were travelling and hence could not attend the function, apart from Mr. A T Joseph and Mr. I M Rao. Several senior members, faculty of IMEI and ladies were also present at the event.
Mr. S N Mishra, head of IRQS, Indian Register of Shipping handed over the ISO 9001:2008 certificate to the President, Mr. Subba Rao, and read out a congratulatory message from IRS.
In his address, Subba Rao lauded the efforts of the IMEI Sub Committee tasked with the process of ISO, led by the untiring efforts of Mr. Y Nath, and his team, which included Mr. N Mathur. Subba Rao also recalled the drive and efforts of many of its senior Fellows / Members, such as Past President, Mr. A R Chitnis who was the torch bearer in its initial years. Subba Rao also took the opportunity to complement all the Past Presidents on their vision, referring to them as the “league of extraordinary gentlemen”.
Mr. Arun Gupta was equally vocal in his felicitations of the Past Presidents, who he said were the pioneers in establishing the foundations of the IMEI. Mr. Gupta also launched the IMEI Mobile App which could be used as a medium for communication with members all over India and overseas. The members present appreciated that IMEI continues to keep pace with technology. The initiator of this process, who had been working on this system over the past few months, Mr. V K Jain was hugely relieved when the App went on line in the house, without a hitch.
In his address, the distinguished, Mr. Deepak Shetty, congratulated IMEI on its achievement, but cautioned the members on the need to maintain the focus. He said that while one finds it easier to reach the Everest, one needs to sustain that effort if one were to stay there, probably referring to the cliche, “easy to get to the top, but difficult to stay there”. Mr. Shetty eloquently spoke on the need for technology, and that IMEI must partner with the Industry on a vigourous footing to be heard by the upper echelons of governance.
The Institute utilized the opportunity to acknowledge the contribution of the Past Presidents in the growth of the IMEI since its days of infancy. The Past Presidents were honoured in the house with suitably crafted mementoes, presented to them by the Chief Guest, Mr. Shetty. Two of the Past Presidents, Mr. H K Taneja and Mr. P C Jain thanked the house for the reception and the honour, while recalling their travails in the early days. Mr. Taneja also graciously handed over a cheque for Rs.2 lacs to the President, Mr. Subba Rao, towards contribution for the Institute’s Benevolent Fund.
Mr. Rajeev Nayyer, earlier made a presentation of IMEI and its activities, with a focus on the future of IMEI, which was well received.
The Hon General Secretary, Mr. V K Jain conducted the proceedings and proposed a Vote of Thanks in the end. Mr. Shetty was taken on a guided tour of IMEI, before the evening closed with a dinner on the premises, which was well laid out in the verandah.
