Report on IWCEM 2017



The International Workshops, Conferences and Expo for Military, Marine and Aero Applications (IWCEM) is a unique initiative bringing together Indian Navy (IN), Indian Coast Guard (IGC), national shipyards, relevant industries, professional bodies, and academia together on a single platform. One important initiative of IWCEM is a “Technology Meet” which is in a interactive panel discussion format. The objective is to have constructive discussions among stakeholders on the issues being faced by them and finding solutions thereof.


IWCEM 2017:


IWCEM 2017 was organized at Jaipur from 3 to 5 June 2017. Dr B K Saxena, Principal and Past President, IMEI chaired the IWCEM 2017. Dr G Satheesh Reddy, Scientific Advisor to Raksha Mantri was the chief guest. Dr S Guruprasad, Director General, DRDO and Cmde Rakesh Anand (Retd.) CMD, Mazagon Docks Ltd were the guests of honour. Vice Adm SKK Krishnan, AVSM, VSM (Retd), and Rear Admiral RK Shrawat, AVSM (Retd) were felicitated for their contribution to marine engineering. The event was attended by Flag Officers of Indian Navy, Indian Army, Indian Air Force & Indian Coastguard, CMDs and senior management personnel from the shipyards, professional bodies, DRDO and other defence R&D organizations, and academic institutions also attended.

 Captain Clark O Troyer, Commanding Officer, Office of Naval Research, US Navy and Dr Samir Degan, President, NACE International also attended. President Mr. D. Mehrotra also addressed the gathering/


Technology Meet:

The sessions included the Technology Meet and Technical Sessions for paper presentations, including papers from students. Various issues on Cross Flow of Technologies among the three defence services were discussed in the Technology Meet. R&D and technology development in the area of materials and systems were also discussed. Mr. V.K. Jain, Vice President, IMEI gave an invited talk on new regulatory developments.


Technical Sessions:

24 number of papers were presented in the main technical sessions.

The students’ session featured 25 technical papers by students from various institutions from all over the country. These were in four sessions. 20 student members from TMI, participated and presented 14 papers in all sessions.
