Various Sub-Committees at the Branch continue to strive and bring forth to its members newer and relevant areas of interest. One such field is underwriting and marine insurance. Towards this the Branch’s Technical Sub-Committee organised an interactive technical webinar on ‘P&I Clubs’ in which certain hot button topics were deliberated with Capt. Anuj Velankar Senior Loss Prevention Advisor, UK P&I Club on 6th March 2021.
Capt. Velankar introduced the concept of re-insurance and role of P&I Clubs. He gave an overview of claims covering cargo/ container loss/damage, personnel claims like injury, illness, death etc., and the concepts of bill of lading, insurance for riding gangs, impact of various maritime conventions and their amendments. An interactive session steered by Mr. S.M. Rai enthused response from the audience which flooded the Chatbox with questions ranging from liability, hull/freight insurance, Salvage, criminalisation of seafarer, third party liability and fines and people issues that have emerged during the COVID-19 Pandemic etc.
A patient and enthusiastic Capt. Velankar addressed each of these queries succinctly and expressed his willingness to expand on more separately due to paucity of time. The Webinar was attended by about 150 Members across different geographical locations and its recording is also available on Branch’s YouTube Channel which can be accessed through Linktree.
