NATIONAL MARITIME DAY – DIAMOND JUBILEE CELEBRATIONS

Week long Diamond Jubilee celebrations of National Maritime Day on 5th April commenced on 30th March with the pinning of a Merchant Navy Flag on the lapels of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi by the Union Minister for Ports, Shipping & Waterways Shri Sarbananda Sonowal in presence of Senior Shipping officials in New Delhi. Prime Minister was apprised that the theme of the celebrations is Amrit Kaal in Shipping. He wished Industry, Seafarers and Celebrations very best and to work for the ongoing efforts towards port-led development and harnessing the coasts for economic prosperity.

On the occasion a memento was also presented to the Prime Minister. Speaking on the occasion, Shri Sonowal said, “The seafarers from India have played a pivotal role in keeping the global supply chain operational. The service provided by these unsung heroes of our sea will be celebrated during the National Maritime Week. We have the immense pleasure & honour to have our dynamic Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi ji, lending support to this initiative as he wore country’s first Merchant Navy flag on his lapel marking the beginning of the week long celebrations.”
